our beginning

Mother Janie Mae Neal

Founding Mother of DCC 1936 - 2018

The origin of Discipleship Community Church (DCC) was formed out of a need in September 2015. Due to his mother Janie M. Neal being confined to a wheelchair, Mother Neal was not able to make regular church services at her home church and desired to be spiritually fed. At that time Pastor Neal, having been licensed and ordained decided to bring church to her. At her request she wanted to invite some of her community friends and neighbors of Meadow Oaks.  After speaking to his Pastor, the late Rev. Dr. George Cook, Jr. (Pastor of GMSBC).  Pastor Neal was instructed and encouraged to extend the Good News of the Gospel to his mother and the Meadow Oaks Community. It was discovered that the entire area was spiritually hungry and thirst for the Word of God. The first services were held in Mother Neal’s living room, which quickly grew within a few months.  Which required the need for more space and a new home.  After speaking to the resident manager, DCC were given access to the community center of Meadow Oaks.  This led to DCC being established as a church in the Spring of 2016 within the CHA (Inlivian) -Meadow Oaks Community Center. By joining forces with the CHA (Inlivian) God increased the territory to also include the CHA (Inlivian) - Wallace Wood Community as well.  Once becoming a church, DCC join the covering of PTP Christian Church under the tutelage of Bishop C MacArthur Sanders. DCC was then accepted into the Church Planting Program of the North Carolina Baptist Association. Due to the onset of Covid-19 the community center was forced to close. Not being able to hold indoor services, God allowed DCC to continue serving the community through tent services (weather permitting) VBS, Cookouts, Food and clothing events, and other outdoor activities, to name a few. DCC again found itself in need of a church home to serve the community in the winter months.  With God’s hand to guide them a partnership was formed with East City Church.  DCC was provided space to be able to hold services and continue to serve its communities. After spending 15 months serving the community with the help of East City Church.  DCC found themselves in need of a more suitable location for the ministry to serve. With Pray and Supplication to God, in DCC’s 7th year of ministry God blessed the church with it first church home to call its own. With the dedication of the members, friends and the community, DCC was able to security a new location.  On Sunday March 5th, 2023 the first Worship Service was held. God has now expanded the territory of DCC to serve in (2) locations. Meadow Oaks Community Center and Independence Business Park (new church building).
